Organising around teams...
The business environment is constantly changing; technical, social, political and economic changes demand that businesses organise themselves differently if they are to be successful. The teams that used to work on distinct projects in a single location are now working on diverse projects, in many teams across many geographic destinations – this demands a different way of working if the teams are to become high performing. With the increasing number of global companies; divisional and functional teams are required to pay attention to both the corporate goals and local interests creating a need to look at new ways of working.
There is a lot of business material and research around creating high performing teams; all highlighting the importance of teams and how to develop a team to be highly productive either through focussing on the goal and processes OR the practices and behaviours of the team. I believe, for a team to develop, it has to attend to both the (tangible) business performance and the (intangible) team social processes.
